A Getaway

My dream job would be styling editorials for fashion magazines.  Talk about an amazing way to tell stories.  The spread below is from July 2011's cover shoot for Vogue Turkey featuring Dree Hemmingway and Sebastian Faena and is the sort of shoot I'd like to think I'd style.  I love how the photos look like polaroids (complete with scribbled writing at the bottom).  It's obvious these two are on a bit of an adventure and it seems to me like they are in lust and simply seeing the world.    It's enough to make me want to go on my own sea-side getaway.

..Oh, Parties!

I'm not sure why but I completely fell in love with this complaint letter written to Andy Warhol.  Perhaps because it's a day dreaming catalyst - to envision those parties and all they entailed is enough to occupy my mind for hours.  Who was there?  What exactly did they leave behind?  Who on earth would complain about an Andy Warhol party (I'm envisioning a stuffy, older lady living next door).   It then got me to thinking of my own parties and similar letters that have been written to myself and my roomies.  We may not have been famous, and we were probably drinking keg beer as opposed to Dom, but the parties of my younger days were celeb-worthy in their own right.   I get extremely nostalgic when I think about the wild nights I once had.  They generally started with a big group of girls getting ready together.  Hair products, makeup, and a getting ready cocktail (whether it was beer or champagne simply depended on the night.)  Followed by pregaming in someone's basement, then a night out full of dancing, then back to someone's apartment for afterhours.  These are the nights that filled my early twenties, and thinking back on them brings an instant smile to my face.   Here's hoping your weekend is filled with a party or two.

Today, I'd Like To Be Here

A cafe in Montreal.  Image Via Jackie Rueda.
Today I would like to be here.  This is the kind of place I want to walk to in the morning, holding hands with my love.  Then have a long breakfast with fruit, and a pastry, and lots of coffee.  It's completely quaint and I love the feeling I get when I'm just looking at this photo - I can only imagine how amazing it would be to actually be there.  It fuels my wanderlust and is just the sort of thing I need to get through my Wednesday.

A Tan Like Veruschka's

I'm dying to get somewhere warm and wear sundresses and bikinis.  And when it comes to vintage beachware inspiration, there really is no one better to look to than 70's supermodel Veruschka.  With an omni-present tan, sun streaked hair, and always-vibrant clothing choices, there are so many looks that make me want to revamp my wardrobe so it's a bit more retro.

Fresh Faced for Spring

While the current weather is keeping my ballet flats in their shoe boxes and my light blouses tucked away in my closet, it's never too soon to start experimenting with spring hair and makeup trends.  While watching the Spring/Summer 2012 collections last September, I made notes of some of my favorite trends to try out.  They are listed below, along with some of the products and tools that will be needed to make them possible.

Romantically Pink at Ralph Lauren
Soft pink blush, sheer golden lip gloss, and lots of black mascara set off this amazingly simple and wonderfully spring look.  The sleek hair finishes off this angelic trend and I'm dying to try it.
Chanel Poudre Tissee in Brompton Road, DiorShow Iconic in Black, Mac Lustreglass in Instant Gold

Fluffed Up-Do's at Diane Von Furstenberg
Completely in love with the voluminous up-do's that all of DVF's models sported on the runway.  Combined with barely there makeup, the look is completely fresh and oh so elegant.
Pantene Pro V Voluminous Hairspray, Conair Pro Styling Comb, Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray

Mod Hair & Girly Makeup at Erin Fetherston

Messy ponytails, thick eyeliner, and pink stained lips give off a sexy and youthful vibe.    Paired with sweet attire (like polka dots and bows) the look is retro and fun.
Estee Lauder Doublewear Eye Pencil in Onyx,  Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me, Goody Ouchless hairties.

Dramatic Falsies at Zac Posen
I love nothing more than a good fake eyelash - and I'm loving the varied lengths of these particular  lashes.  With just a simple eye shadow and not much else, this look could even be day appropriate.
Rimmel Glam'Eyes Macara, Urban Decay Naked Palette, Revlon Runway False Eyelashes

Natural Beauties at Calvin Klein
The "no-makeup" makeup look is a trend that will never go away.  The keys to this look are glowing skin, a slightly glossed lip, and flowingly care-free locks.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, Moroccan Oil Shine Spray for Hair, Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler

Fashion is a Feeling

Happy Friday, dears! This photo of Arizona Muse backstage at Oscar de la Renta completely took my breath away.  It goes to show that fashion is much more than just clothing.   It's a feeling.  The look of anticipation, the artful dress, the amount of people it takes to make a fashion show work - it's incredible and it's important to remember.   Here's to hoping you have a weekend filled with inspiration & passion.

Have A Whimsical Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's day to all my wonderful readers!  Here's hoping your day is filled with all the stuff that makes Valentine's day so sweet. This has always been a holiday I've enjoyed, whether I've been single or not and I think it's because something about love is very magical.  When I stumbled upon these illustrations by Jessie Marion King, I found that they embodied a sort of romantic charm that fit perfectly with Valentine's Day.  The Scottish artist's work was published mainly in children's books and although there is something inherently innocent about these paintings, they are complex enough that I don't necessarily find them childish.  The soft colors and woodland scenes are absolutely dreamy, and as crazy as this sounds, I'm completely obsessed with the attire of the women.  The flowy dresses, sparkly veils, and flowered crowns are worthy of any fairy tale.

Spring Taste Buds

I've had enough of casseroles and soups.  I'm ready for light meals that involve quick preparation and lots of flavor.   In the winter months, I don't mind spending hours on end in the kitchen.  I actually love it.  However, the exact opposite holds true when temperatures start to get a little warmer.  These recipes are quick and look wonderfully flavorful.

{Fruit-schetta - toasted bread, creamcheese, fruit, and honey. Recipe here.}

{Blueberry Green Iced Tea - combination of my favorite things. Recipe here.}

{Cuban sandwiches are my favorite food ever.  Found a 'skinny' version & am so excited to try it.  Recipe here.}

What's your favorite spring dish?
