Cute Buns

I've always struggled to pull off a messy bun.   You know the ones I'm talking about, the buns that look effortless, like, "Oh, I just didn't have time to do my hair today, so I just put it up."  Which we all know is a lie.  Those little tendrils, that fall around the face just so, the slight volume at the crown, so hair doesn't look slicked back - it's really an art form.  I've always been incredibly envious of those who can make a simple knot look impossibly chic and fresh for years now.  But while reading Us Weekly, Whitney Port gave a hair tutorial letting us know how she pulls off her topknot bun.  She explains:

- Apply volumizer to create a lift at the hairline.  

- Wrap the front section of hair around a curling iron.  

- Pull up hair into a genie pony tail.

- Split the pony into 4 sections, looping each towards the center of the bun.

- Place pins to hold the bun.

I was a bit confused by the directions, but once I played around with it, I found it really did create a wonderful little bun!   It's been perfect on hot days when I want to look put together but don't want to deal with my hair.  

Coachella Cool

Coachella was this past weekend and celebs attended the shows in their coolest concert-wear.  Whenever I need inspiration for concerts, I look at what my favorite fashion mavens have worn to this particular event.  Because lets face it - dressing for concerts is no easy task - you want to look good but be comfotable. And of course you want to dress appropriately for whatever act you'll be seeing (becuase we all know we're not going to wear to a Dave Matthews concert that we would a David Guetta show.)  Whose rocker vibe is inspiring you?

Airport Chic

I plan outfits religiously. When I know an event is coming up, generally the first thing I think about is what I'll wear.  Traveling is no exception.  I was never a fan of the whole, "Let's wear sweats on a plane so we'll be comfy" trend.   I admit, I did it once or twice, and I'll probably do it again, but I  love the idea of getting a little gussied up to go to the airport.  You see so many people from around the world, it's fun to look your best.  In Nina Garcia's book The One Hundred she talks about how going to the airport used to a special occasion - you wore your best comfy clothes to take on a day of travel.  She suggests bringing back some of the glamour with a cashmere cardigan, scarf, tote, and sunnies.  Below are some celebs that nailed the look I'd love to accomplish.
