Such a Vibrant Thing

I've often marveled at color's ability to alter one's mood.  Looking at the greens and purples of Van Gogh's Irises that hangs above my bed is instantly comforting.   When I wear my Vamp nail polish from Chanel, I feel beyond sophisticated.  And putting on my favorite hot pink sweater almost guarantees a good day.

When I stumbled upon these photos of Morocco, I was overcome with wanderlust.  Do you ever get that urge to travel?  To see places you've never seen, taste foods you've never tasted, meet people you've never met?  Yeah, I'm experiencing that right now.  And these photos provide just enough color and beauty to satisfy my need for all things foreign.

Make Mine Missoni

I found I could say things  with color and shapes that I couldn't say in any other way - things I had no words for... Georgia O'Keefe

Before I really understood fashion, I understood Missoni.   I vividly remember stupidly paging through Vogue at age 10, not reading, not picking up on trends, but browsing the pictures.  The brand that always stood out was Missoni.  The brilliant colors, amazing knits, and geometric elegance of the pieces had me hooked even at such a young age.  As I grew older, my love for the brand never waivered.  I saw how celebrities wore the bright colors in such a carefree yet sophistaced way and fell deeper in love.  Those prints. Ah, those prints had me daydreaming.  I would wear that wrap sweater on a private jet, bound for Cannes.   That jumpsuit would be perfect for a day of shopping in Malibu.  And that crochet knit sweater is begging to be worn on moonlit walks through the park.  Just looking at the clothes was like a vacation for me - a getaway to the bright and colorful and elegant.   I bought my first M Missoni sweater last summer.  When I wear it, I feel like I'm wearing a little bit of fashion history.  I love to read about the Missoni family, and all that they stand for and how they came to be. Margherita Missoni is someone I've always looked at with starry-eyed wonderment.  Below are some photos displaying her amazing style-

Gimme Color

I gravitate towards black.  I might even go as far as calling it my "favorite color".  But this time of year, when I've seen way too much dreary gray, I want nothing more than rainbows of color.  And when it comes to color inspiration, I like to think of  fashion in countries that seem to embrace all things vibrant - like Morocco, India, Spain, and Mexico.  I'm thinking long maxi skirts, flowing tunics, dangly, bejeweled earrings and patterned scarves scarves.  I know the whole Morrocan/Marrakech theme was huge back in '09, but could we please bring it back?  Below are some clothes and accessories techni-color dreams are made of... Can't you just imagine wearing these amazing pieces in the most exotic of locales with a glowing tan?

Pink Dress: Mara Hoffman, Embroidered Silk Story Kaftan $310
Turquoise Scarf: Crumpet Silk and Cashmere Blend Scarf $325
Lime Purse: Jimmy Choo Neon Purse $410
Green Belt: Miu Miu Slim Belt $165
