She Gets Carrie Fever....

Like most twenty-somethings obsessed with fashion, I grew up watching Sex and the City.   It was one of those shows I discovered right when I got to college, and it only took half of an episode to get me completely hooked.   It was such an amazing concept for me - four friends, living in the big city, wearing amazing clothes, and doing pretty much whatever they wanted.  I've posted in the past about how the show has influenced my fashion, and watching re-runs is still one of my favorite places to go when needing a little couture inspiration.  That all being said, I had to share this amazing article I found on Vogue.com.   I was a little taken aback when I read that these were styles, "Carrie made famous decades ago."... Decades!?  Really?  But in all honesty, the last season of the show was in 2004 and I was still in high-school. Wowza, where does the time go?  But even more astonishing than time's ability to slip away might be Carrie's fashion's staying power.  As the article highlights these are trends that are timeless, and Carrie's keen sense of fashion will probably even be inspirational to our own daughters.  What's your favorite Sex and the City fashion trend and do you still rock it?

I personally think Carrie's style is best in the final season when she takes on her "Russian lova".   Her style is a little more mature and refined. There are lots of girly dresses, tailored jackets, and pretty detailing that is difficult not to drool over.  Also, how funny is that Ms. Bradshaw made the whole ombre hair style popular way back when?  I giggle at how long we all took to catch on!

Autumn Air

It is a chilly one here today in the Midwest, and I can't lie - I'm loving it!  Today's cloudy, dreary, high-of-sixty has me craving warm soup and cozy sweaters, and when I spotted this spread of Reese Witherspoon in Marie Claire - I fell in love with the sweetness of simple knits paired with delicate undergarments.  It puts me in mind of the Sex and the City episode when Carrie is holed up in the Russians apartment during a winter storm, wearing oversized sweaters and not much else.   Hope you're bundled up this brisk day!

Let Me See Your Bra

Inspiration, it's something I talk about all the time, but how can I not when I'm writing about fashion?  The two go hand-in-hand.  I get my fashion inspiration many different places - movies, magazines, blogs, friends' facebook pictures, walking down the street, and of course, Sex and the City.    What girl doesn't?  Thanks to E! re-running all of my favorite episodes, I'm reminded of how Carrie became such a fashion icon the world over and how re-exploring her style is like visiting an old friend. How amazing to look back on all of the outfits I loved.  One of signature looks, is her ability to wear no more than a bra and look completely chic.  It's not overtly sexy, it's cool.   Now, are you thinking, "Really Brittney?  How four years ago...."  Umm no.  I still looove it.  Watch Season 5, you'll see it repeated again and again and it's always perfection.  I like the look specifically with a simple sheer white blouse and a black bra.

That being said, what I really want is an amazing Equipment shirt. They're the prefect amount of sheer, and I would love to see how Carrie Bradshaw would style this amazing staple piece.  The shirts come in an array of colors and made of classic washed silk.  They were created by former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld's husband, Christian Restoin.   The shirts were big back in the 80's, and Restoin recently decided to bring them back in 2009. Click here to read more about them! Are you totally lusting? Cause I am.  But if not, how would you show off your bra?
