Kate in Color

Kate Moss is vibrant on the pages of Vogue Paris’ April 2013 issue.  Shot by Mario Testino, Kate looks Peruvian chic in mixed patterns and  elegantly angled hats.    There certainly are some fun trends to be pulled from her looks to add some spice to your style  this spring and summer.

A Glass of White

Last night I had the opportunity to meet up with many of Des Moines' fashion bloggers thanks to a wonderful event hosted by Samantha and Katelyn.  The event was held at Aimee, a darling little boutique in the East Village, and it was so fun talking fashion and sipping champagne with some fellow fashion lovers.  I'll be posting more on this tomorrow!

But to tie you over, I had to share this amazing campaign featured in Centrefold magazine starring Kate Moss.  Something about her lounging around with a glass of white is really speaking to me - nights in have been few and far between and I'm dying for an evening with nothing to do.  Have the early nights and cooler weather sent you into nesting mode?

Messy

It's funny how the slightest change in a beauty routine can totally shake things up.  A few weeks ago I was at my family's lake house and found that there was no conditioner.  "Roughing" it, I only used shampoo.  The result?  An au natural look that was slightly reminiscent of Kate Moss's famously mussed up coif.  I found that my hair had more volume, and was much easier to manipulate.  This is something I will be doing lots of in the future.  Coincidentally I came across an article on the lovely Christine Centenera in which she explains she "never uses conditioner".  I get it and I love it.

Vogue Welcomes Summer!

It's beginning to feel a lot like summer!   These amazing June Vogue covers encompass all the things we love most about the warmer months - bright colors, bikinis, and sparkly little dresses.  I'm headed off to the lake for a long weekend, here's hoping your'e able to celebrate the unofficial start of summer in a fun way as well!

Winter Shorts

Tights and shorts are a trend I always forget about.  I pack away my shorts when the weather gets cold and come January I'm completely bored with jeans and leggings.  This year, however, I'm making a point to remember this cute lil' combo.  While living in London, Kate Moss would be in literally every tabloid.   While I struggled to dress for the chilly summer weather I took cues from my favorite fashionista who made use of her shorts by pairing them with prim tights.  A look I've found is equally appropriate for this blah weather we're experiencing in the midwest (sorry, but I'm not exactly appreciative of the 40 degree, sunny, and snowless climate we have here.)

Pretty Pictures

I'd be completely drawn to these pictures even if they weren't of Kate Moss.  But lets be honest, she makes them that much better.   Loving the laid back, vintagey feel.  And somehow, they just feel autumnal.  Loving how these outfits reinforce the basics in way that's fresh.  Remind me to pull out of storage (or purchase) the following.

Edgy Ankle Boots
Crisp Button Downs
Vintage T's
Leather Moto Jackets

Romantic About Gypsies

In the September issue of Vogue Kate Moss divulged that she was inspired to marry beau Jamie Hince after watching the reality show "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding."

She said, "I am so romantic about Gypsies. They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at sixteen. You can’t believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times 10; they can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius. I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day—let’s do it!"

And although her big day was more Great Gatsby meets woodland fairy than wandering gypsy, her affinity for for boho chic style was evident from what she wore the eve of her wedding.  The flowy blue dress and tall suede boots were perfectly gypsy.  And when it comes down to it gypsies are amazing inspiration.  The colors, the layers, the jewels - this is where boho was born, and I'm obsessing.

So I'm back to the velvet underground.
Back to the floor that I love.
To a room with some lace & paper flowers.
Back to the gypsy that I was...
