A Really Terrific Song

One life, live free, big dreams - we're all about 'em.

I truly believe music has a huge effect on our lives.  It can define a moment, change a mood, and alter our perceptions better than maybe anything else on this planet.  My best friend sent me this music video a while back and told me, "Watch it, it will make you happy."  And boy was she right, it did make me happy.  So happy I teared up a bit.  The song is entitled "You & I" and is by Crystal Fighters, who are reminiscent of Dispatch but with a slightly electronic twist.  So go ahead and watch this video (it's odd and a bit sad, but ultimately lovely) and allow your Thursday to be made a little brighter.

A Pre Summer Playlist

Making a new playlist or CD has got to be my favorite way to welcome a new season.   I've been doing this since I was a freshman in high school, and it's amazing how listening to "Summer 2002" can bring back memories that have been buried deep in the recesses of my mind for who knows how long.  I compiled this little playlist on Spotify and had it on loop yesterday.   It's the sort of stuff that is easy to get lost in and is perfect for daydreaming.  Or lazy car rides to the lake.  Or sitting outside sipping sangria.  Enjoy.
  1. Local Natives - "Wide Eyes"
  2. Ryan Bingham - "The Poet"
  3. Simian Mobile Disco - "Cruel Intentions"
  4. The Black Keys - "Howlin' For You"
  5. Cut Copy - "Need You Now"
  6. Polica - "Amongster"
  7. Gardens & Villa - "Thorn Castles"
  8. Lana del Rey - "Diet Mountain Dew"
  9. The Ruby Suns - "There Are Birds"
  10. James Vincent McMorrow - "Higher Love"
  11. Fun - "Some Nights"
  12. The Tallest Man on Earth - "Pistol Dreams"
  13. Alabama Shakes - "Rise to the Sun"
  14. The Big Pink - "Velvet"
  15. Jack White - "Wayfaring Stranger"
  16. Moon Taxi - "Let's Go Back"
  17. French Kicks - "Abandon"
  18. Animal Kingdom - "Strange Attractor"
  19. Iron & Wine - "Boy with a Coin"
  20. The Jezabels - "Endless Summer"

Catching Up On Inspiration

I hate when I don't blog.  I constantly have this little feeling like I'm forgetting to do something.  So it is with great happiness that I'm finally back at it.   The holiday season is in full swing,  and between that, the excitement of getting engaged, and my new found love for Pinterest, I've had very little time to sit and take it all in.   Tonight I finally had some time to get inspired, and make a list of things to do before Christmas has come and gone.  Below are what's currently making me happy.

I cannot take credit for this photo, but I recently enjoyed tea, a cupcake, and Vogue.  Best pairing ever? Yes, I do believe.

I've been completely enamored with stars lately.  Not sure why, but I think it has to do with the sparkle.

Tights with seams add the perfect amount of sexy to demure outfits.  I'm thinking paired with a  simple shift, it would be the perfect combo.

Staying away from Pronovias.com and other wedding dress sites has proved near impossible.  This picture is making me want to find the perfect shoes to go with the perfect dress!

Starting to plan a trip to a place I've always dreamed of going (Ireland!)

On a side note, it could snow (a LOT) anytime now.  I wouldn't complain one bit.

My fiance and I just discovered eco-fire places.  They're essentially oversized candles, but put off warmth and look like a real fire.  Too excited.

By chance I stumbled upon my favorite Creative Writing teacher's Tumblr.   First thing I asked her was what  books she recommends.   Her top choice was The Greenlanders.  A chapter in and I wish I could spend all day reading.

This song is amazing.  It is so romantic and makes me want to plan a wedding.  Maybe it's the craziness of the holidays, but I've been all about classical/simple music lately.

Makes Me Feel Fine

The most horrible thing about growing up has got to be the lack of summer vacations.   It's so easy to get caught up in work and life and not take time to do the little things that make summer, summer.   But this past weekend was spent at my parents house and between barbecues, lemonades on the pier, and evening at our favorite lakeside bars, it was finally starting to feel like summer.  And it felt wonderful.   Here are some more ways I'm going to incorporate summer into my everyday routine, so it doesn't slip by this year.

Ultra bright makeup that compliments a tan.

Soaking sun and mindless reading all next to or on water.
